The Start the Heart Foundation went to Western Middle School in Louisville, KY and taught 115 7th grade students hands-only CPR today. The entire 7th grade student population at the school was taught hands-only CPR. These teens were very enthusiastic and did a wonderful job.
Western Middle School is located in an area of Louisville with a high rate of cardiac arrests. Start the Heart Foundation is focusing it’s efforts at trying to teach hands-only CPR in these highest risk areas.
80% of the time that a person suffers a cardiac arrest it is in a private residence. This forces lay people to act in a medical fashion. It also means that if you are performing CPR on a cardiac arrest victim. That victim will likely be somebody that you know or love. Everyone should know this lifesaving skill.
