Cardiac arrest survival varies from 0.3% in Detroit,MI up to 50% in Seattle, WA. We estimate that Louisville, KY has a survival rate between 6-14%. While the survival statistics for cardiac arrest overall, 8%, are dismal, there are opportunities to improve survival in communities. We feel teaching hands-only CPR to the public can increase the rate of bystander CPR for cardiac arrest victims. A cardiac arrest victim that receives CPR has a 2-3 times increased chance of survival in a cardiac arrest.
