Tonight we held our last teaching class for 2015. It was our monthly class held at Louisville Cardiology office. We had a group of friends come and learn and then head out to dinner together and we had a group from a local philanthropy project show up for teaching.
Everyone learns what a cardiac arrest is and how to perform hands only CPR. Here is Megan demonstrating the proper technique for hands only CPR.
Everyone then practices hands only CPR with their own mannequin. We don’t move on until everyone is able to do the technique correctly.
After we teach hands only CPR we demonstrate how to use an AED. Everyone in the class is always very interested in these mystical devices. The goal is to demonstrate how easy and safe they are to use and encourage people to use an AED if it is available.
Our two interns Megan and Kelly were fantastic and enthusiastic. Their positive energy is infectious and the class really flies by and was finished in 35 minutes. One of the best things about the class is the universal feeling of empowerment from the students who take the class. Cardiac arrest is scary but they leave ready to act.
After this class tonight, our total for people taught hands only CPR is up to 11,955. We have a long way to go but we are off to a great start. We have been blessed to have such great support and wonderful interns to teach and help the citizens of Kentucky and Indiana.
