Start the Heart Foundation was invited to participate in the Louisville Dragonboat Festival. This is a wonderful fundraising and team building event. The festival has been held for 2 years and is at the waterfront park. Special thanks to Larry Jones and John Muzik for encouraging us and allowing us to participate.
Our team was combined with a group from EMC. EMC has been a strong supporter of the foundation and special thanks to Steve and Gina Carr for helping to organize the team’s help and uniforms. This was a high energy event with a team of 21 people rowing together in a boat.
There were a series of three races. During the downtime the Mayor of Louisville, Greg Fischer, came over to visit with the team.
We also did a 2 minute public hands only CPR demonstration. Our new intern, Kelly Coburn, is seen here demonstrating the proper steps to perform during a cardiac arrest. There were between 100-200 people that saw the demonstration.
This was a great event for us to increase the foundations exposure and mission. We were interviewed by 2 TV stations and a newspaper.
Oh yeah, it turns out we had a great team. We were faster with each race and ended up behind only the professional team. Our team had a great time and throughly enjoyed themselves.
We were honored to be a part of this unique event in our town. Thank you to the organizers of this event for allowing us to participate.
