The Start the Heart Foundation was born in 2014. The mission is to improve survival from cardiac arrest through training and education. The foundation will have pre-medical students as interns to carry out this mission. The cardiac arrest interns will become certified CPR instructors. The interns will then teach hands-only CPR to persons in the community with no cost to the recipient. We will focus our education efforts in the highest risk areas in Jefferson Co, KY. The interns will teach CPR in high schools, churches, community centers and other locations throughout the Louisville metropolitan area. The foundation intends to teach at least 2,000 people CPR in 2014.
The cardiac arrest interns will have a shadowing experience following cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, primary care physicians, ride along with EMS and have exposure to other areas in medicine during the internship. This will be a preeminent internship experience for the premedical students.
